Alpacas…

Share

Our Fiber Flock is starting! Last week we visited with Bev at  Ore Hill Farm Alpacas. What a wonderful breeding facility; clean, organized and over 400 alpacas! It took all our restraint to not bring home 20 young “fiber boys” – we do have 5 due to arrive on Calluna Farm just before Christmas.

Our goal is for 3 Leicester Longwool Sheep, 5 Alpacas, and 2 Mohair goats… Guess we’ll have to add a Llama to guard them…
The horses are starting to wonder if this is still a horse farm…

Leicester Longwool

Once a favorite of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, the Leicester Longwool sheep are now classified as a “rare breed”.

The fleece in these photos is from Row House Farm in Harrisonburg.

Wool – Alpaca – Mohair – Silk —- oh my!
Everywhere I look I see fiber to spin into beautiful art yarns. After far too many years of being away from my studio, I am excited to discover I still know how to spin!
